The Society of the Educational Arts, Inc. (SEA), a Bilingual Arts-in-Education Organization & Latino Theatre Company for Young Audiences, is dedicated to the empowerment and educational advancement of children and young adults. SEA creates educational theater and arts programs specifically designed to examine, challenge and create possible solutions for current educational and social issues affecting our communities.Founded in 1985 in Puerto Rico, the Society of the Educational Arts, Inc./Sociedad Educativa de las Artes, Inc. (SEA) is a not-for-profit Latin American/Bilingual Arts-in-Education Organization dedicated to the empowerment and educational advancement of children and young adults.

SEA established its New York City operations in 1993, and has been expanding its array of programming ever since. SEA’s unique integration of the performing arts and Arts-in-Education programs introduces and enriches cultural awareness and a sense of identity, especially in children.

Dr. Manuel A. Morán, Founder and CEO, leads a team of professional artists and administrators, all of whom are dedicated to serving the Latino community. This unwavering commitment of providing access and preserving Latino arts & culture has solidified SEA as a leading artistic/educational organization in New York and Puerto Rico.  


SEA gives a voice to young people through theater and the arts, facilitates learning, provides training and motivates and challenges young people to stay in school. Furthermore, SEA’s programs and performances exemplify wholesome and educational value, strengthen cultural identity and boost self-esteem for all ages and backgrounds.  

Our objectives are the following:
• To promote education by means of artistic manifestations and the teaching of arts in general.
• To promote the integration of the Arts in Education as a tool and catalyst to facilitate teaching,
   learning and social awareness in the community as well as in the educational system.
• To promote and to develop the talent and the work of young people and new artists.
• To offer a real alternative of wholesome entertainment of cultural, educational, moral and social
   value to the public, especially for children and young adults.
• To enhance the values and principles of the Hispanic community and to influence it positively, with
   the objective of improving the quality of life. This without excluding other communities and ethnic groups.
• To develop and promote cultural/artistic exchange and expression of the communities and/or groups
   and artistic organizations.

SEA is the Premier Bilingual/Latino Arts-in-Education Organization with a professional bilingual artist-teacher staff that represents over 22 different countries. In addition, SEA’s programs and performances exemplify a multitude of Latin American cultures, traditions and art forms.


SEA’s strength is in the teaching of the Arts. An example of the range of SEA’s Art Workshops:

• Dance - Ballet/Classical, Afro-Caribbean, Hip-hop, Latin Folkloric, etc. 

• Music- Voice, Chorus, Instruments, Latin Rhythms, etc. 

• Painting- Freehand, Drawing, Murals, Self-portrait, Period/History etc. 

• Drama/Theatre – Musical Theatre, Producing Plays/Workshops, Acting, Directing,
   Play & Song Writing, Technical (Lights & Sound) Production, Set Design. 

• Arts & Crafts – Papier-mâché, Mask Making, Sculpture, etc.

• Puppetry – Construction, manipulation, etc.

• SEA also excels in Arts Technology - Graphic Arts, Multimedia and Film.

SEA’s Electronic Arts Center (EAC) is an educational facility where computers and electronic communications technologies are available to schools and the community, but especially to those who otherwise might have little or no opportunity to use or learn to use these technologies. 

SEA’s EAC also provides the community opportunities to use computers and electronic communications technologies to explore their own interests, to develop skills, and to discover what the technology can do for their education, careers and life.

SEA’s home base theater TEATRO SEA @ Los Kabayitos Puppet & Children’s Theater, located at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Educational Center on the Lower East Side in New York City, offers a year-round season of professional Puppet and Children’s Theater, as well as Art & Puppetry Workshops. Teatro SEA has become a vital component to New York City cultural life. 

Teatro SEA offers Saturday performances for general audiences at 3:00 pm. School performances are available during the week and upon request.

Our fun and delightful puppets bring to life many educational stories.

Workshops are designed to combine and utilize various art forms (drama, dance, music and the visual arts) to explore and challenge academic, community and social issues. With the guidance of professional artist-teachers, the participants have the opportunity to learn about the arts and to develop a collaborative art project. This project is designed to offer solutions to those issues and concerns. The objective of this program is to offer children and young adults a voice through the arts.
           
This residency program is flexible and can be designed to meet the specific needs and goals of each class, grade or school. Schools have the option of choosing up to five different disciplines of the arts, as well as choosing from various curriculums, themes and lessons plans.

School Residencies: Consist of three 45-60 minute workshops per day, taught by professional artist/teachers.

Staff Developments: Workshops and materials for educators and/or community leaders designed to facilitate teaching and enhance education through the utilization of the arts.

The Theatre-in-Education Program effectively combines an in-school performance from our repertory, pre & post performance workshops and Teacher’s Resource Guides. Our fun and delightful shows bring many educational Latin American stories to life. Theatre is the perfect all-purpose event for private engagements, classrooms, auditorium assemblies or outdoor venues.


• Performances are available for in-school presentations, in various NYC theatres, or at TEATRO SEA’s
   Los Kabayitos Puppet & Children’s Theatre
.
• Performances are approximately 1 hour.
• All teachers receive a Teacher’s Resource Guide with curricular and extracurricular activities related
   to the performance.
• Ask about our pre & post performance workshops.
